NFL Hall of Famer Nick Buoniconti and his son Marc Buoniconti, president of The Miami Project and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, joined Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat on Friday, March 12, as they took on the Chicago Bulls. At the game, Nick and Marc made a special halftime presentation to NBA star Alonso Mourning to thank the Miami Heat family for their support of The Buoniconti Fund and The Miami Project.
"We are proud to have this special game to share with the Miami Heat family and enjoyed sharing our message of a cure for paralysis with the team and its fans," said Marc. "By allowing us to be a part of the amazing game of basketball, they are helping us move closer to a cure."
Tickets were available at a discounted rate, with a portion of the proceeds of all online ticket sales donated to The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis/The Miami Project. Each person who bought tickets through the Miami Heat's Web site was entered into a halftime drawing for great prizes including, two tickets to The Buoniconti Fund's Great Sports Legends Dinner in New York City on September 27, 2010, a Club Med vacation for two, a LeBron James autographed shoe, and a signed Dwyane Wade photo.
"I have known Micky and Madeleine Arison for many years, and their record of giving personally and through their amazing organizations, the Miami Heat and Carnival, is without peer," said Nick Buoniconti. "We are so fortunate to have the Arisons and the entire Miami Heat family as longtime friends and supporters of The Buoniconti Fund and The Miami Project."
Representatives from The Buoniconti Fund were also on hand to provide spinal cord injury information. Fans and the general public were asked to become personally involved by texting STANDUP to 501501 to make a $5 donation to the charity.
