College of Engineering and SEEDS Writing Workshop
The College of Engineering and SEEDS (Scientists and Engineers Expanding Diversity for Success) welcome the return of renowned scientific and engineering writer Judith Swan, Ph.D., associate director for writing in science and engineering at Princeton University, who will present a hands-on writing workshop on Saturday, November 13, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Cox Science Center, room 126 on the Coral Gables campus. Dr. Swan also is co-author of the seminal paper "The Science of Scientific Writing," which describes a strategy for writing clearly based on understanding how readers interpret and make sense of language. This workshop, designed for all levels of writing proficiency, is ideal for graduate students, post-docs, and those who write and edit articles for publication, grant proposals, dissertations, lab reports, and other forms of writing for science and engineering. The workshop also will include an emphasis on faculty as writing mentors.
Networking and coffee will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the workshop at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided courtesy of the College of Engineering. Last year's workshop drew 170 participants, so reserve your seat early. Please RSVP by this Sunday at http://www.as.miami.edu/seeds/ or contact the SEEDS Office at SEEDS@miami.edu. The event is free.
