Faculty and Staff Assistance Program Seminar: “IRS Tax Law Updates for 2010”
The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program will offer a seminar titled "IRS Tax Law Updates for 2010" this Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, second-floor executive board room. The presenter, Jay Fanning, IRS tax consultant, will answer questions and provide information about this year's updates to tax law and helpful IRS hints to save you money. The seminar also will review: • Changes in the tax law brought on by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act • Overlooked deductions and credits most taxpayers either miss or do not fully claim • What effect your retirement savings plan has on your current tax bill • Steps to avoid an IRS audit and what documentation is needed to survive one • Special tips for taxpayers who are facing, or are helping someone else face, the ongoing economic downturn

Free and Confidential Screenings Available on National Depression Screening Day
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences invites all UM employees, students, their families and anyone else in the community to a free and confidential screening for depression and related mood disorders this Thursday, which is National Depression Screening Day.
The nation's oldest voluntary, community-based screening program, the day is designed to provide easy access to a validated screening questionnaire and referral information for treatment. Stop by the Mental Health Hospital Center, 1695 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, suite 3302, between 1 and 5 p.m. for a free screening and a healthier "U."
