Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Once Again Ranked No. 1 Eye Hospital

For the seventh year in a row, the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has been ranked the No. 1 hospital in the country for ophthalmology in U.S. News & World Report's 2010-11 Best Hospitals annual survey. Three other specialties at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center were also ranked as among the nation's best.

Florida Board of Medicine Honors Barth Green, M.D., For Outstanding Medical Service

Barth Green, M.D., professor and chair of neurological surgery and co-founder of Project Medishare, has been recognized as an exemplary Florida medical physician by the Florida Board of Medicine. Onelia G. Lage, M.D., associate professor of clinical pediatrics and chair of the state panel, presented Dr. Green with the distinguished Chairman's Recognition Award at the board's June 5 meeting in Fort Lauderdale. He was recognized for his longstanding humanitarian commitment to spinal-cord injured patients through The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, and to the Haitian community at home and abroad through Project Medishare.
County Honors Medical Education’s Fit to Play Program
Juan Carlos Del Valle, director UM government relations; Tanyika Stephenson, administrative assistant in the Department of Medical Education; Morgan Sendzischew, third-year medical student; Donna Wiener, M.D., assistant professor of clinical pediatrics and director of the General Primary Care Clerkship; Nadia Amin, M.D., assistant professor of clinical medicine; Raysa Christodoulou, manager of programs for the Department of Community Service; and Donna Peyton, manager of fundraising and development at Miami-Dade County's Parks and Recreation Department. The Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Department paid tribute to the Miller School of Medicine at a meeting of the Recreation, Culture and Tourism Committee. The Miller School was presented with a county proclamation for Excellence in Community Service for its partnership in the Fit to Play Summer Camp Program.
