Telischi Named Interim Chair

Imagine growing up without hearing the sounds of childhood: the bells on an ice cream truck, Saturday morning cartoons, your mother's voice. Hundreds of children from South Florida and around the world have been spared that fate thanks to the groundbreaking work of Thomas J. Balkany, M.D., who recently stepped down as chair of otolaryngology at the Miller School.

Sebastian the Ibis was among those recognizing members of the "Come Grow With Us" program at the awards luncheon in University of Miami Hospital's Seminar Center.
Teens Recognized for Strides Made in “Come Grow With Us” Volunteer Program Dozens of local teenagers were beaming with pride at a recognition luncheon held for University of Miami Hospital's "Come Grow With Us" teen volunteer program. This year, the program had a record 85 participants who performed more than 11,300 hours of volunteer work. The awards luncheon held Friday, August 14, was a chance to honor them for their hard work.

Third-year doctoral student Alberto Caban-Martinez and Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., director of the National Institutes of Health.

Miller School Doctoral Student Completes NIH Internship

Alberto Caban-Martinez, a third-year doctoral student in the epidemiology and public health program and one of this year's minority graduate/medical student interns at the National Institutes of Health, attended the August 17 address to staff and NIH community members by the new NIH director.
