Activity

5, 4, 3, 2, 1

A common way to help ground ourselves in the present moment is to take deliberate and active steps to bring ourselves out of worry spirals. One way to do this is by using our five senses to guide us. What is so great about this easy strategy is that you can put it into use at any point in your day this holiday season.

Take a few deep breaths in and out. Begin to take inventory of your immediate surroundings using your 5 senses:

5. Notice 5 things you can see around you. Say them in your mind or out loud.
4. Notice 4 things you can touch in your immediate area. Feel the textures and weights of the objects.
3. Notice 3 things you can hear; notice the differences in tone, volume, and frequency.
2. Notice 2 things you can smell; notice the differences in fragrances, the strengths of each and so on.
1. Notice 1 thing you can taste

And don’t forget to BREATHE!
