Barrett Prize for the Best Dissertation on Latin America and the Caribbean

The Miami Institute for Advanced Study of the Americas (UMIA) is pleased to offer the Barrett Prize, which is awarded to the doctoral student who has produced the best dissertation at the University of Miami in the past year on a topic related to any aspect of Latin America and the Caribbean.  The Barrett Prize carries an award amount of $1,500. Third Annual Climate and Health Symposium

The Third Annual Climate and Health Symposium will be held on May 11. The theme this year is “health effects of extreme weather” which will focus on direct and indirect health effects of extreme weather, such as hurricanes, heat waves, drought and flood, and their persistence. Understanding and managing these effects require interaction and collaboration among different stakeholders, including researchers and policy-makers. Click here for more information.

Danone Institute North America: One Planet. One Health Initiative

The One Planet. One Health Initiative is a new competitive program that will select and fund up to four transdisciplinary teams in 2019 to design, implement and evaluate actionable community-based projects on sustainable food systems. This initiative will provide seed funding for projects such as pilot studies, feasibility testing, needs assessments and planning grants. Each selected team will receive a $20,000 One Planet. One Health Initiative Innovation Award to implement its project and amplify its message to a broader audience. For more information, click here. Postdoctoral Research Position MR-guided Focused Ultrasound at UC San Francisco

University of California San Francisco has an opening for a Postdoctoral Scholar in MR-guided focused ultrasound. This is a joint position between the departments of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and Radiation Oncology. The candidate will be working on the development of an MR-guided hyperthermia delivery system based on a commercially available FDA approved body focused ultrasound transducer, as well as other related research projects.
