UM Appoints Two of Its Own to Prominent Leadership Roles

Charmel Maynard appointed associate vice president and University treasurer; Leslie Dellinger Aceituno named secretary to the Board of Trustees

Charmel Maynard

A former vice president with JPMorgan’s Investment Bank who joined the University of Miami in 2016 and a double UM alumna who rose through the ranks at the U, where she started as a receptionist, have been appointed to prominent leadership roles for which they have served in interim capacities for the past three months.

Charmel Maynard has been named associate vice president and University treasurer, while Leslie Dellinger Aceituno has been named secretary to the UM Board of Trustees.

“In our search to fill these two important roles, we didn’t have to look far,” said UM President Julio Frenk. “The appointments of Charmel and Leslie to key positions within our institution affirm we are a magnet for both attracting and retaining talent. I’m sure both will do a stellar job in their new roles.”

“I am honored, grateful, and incredibly excited to be part of this team,” said Maynard. “We have big dreams, goals, and plans for the upcoming years, and being a part of the continued success here is motivating and humbling.”

Maynard arrived at UM last year as assistant vice president and assistant treasurer. When he was elevated to acting University treasurer last July, he led the University’s treasury functions, including banking and bank relationships, cash management, bond and term loan issuances, student accounts receivable and collections, and corporate cards. He also assisted in investing the University’s assets, including endowment and pension funds.

During his decade-long career with JPMorgan, Maynard focused on investment banking debt capital markets and leveraged finance. He advised clients on capital structure solutions, deal structuring, and execution of syndicated revolving credit facilities, institutional term loans, and bond issuances.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Amherst College.

“Charmel is immensely talented, savvy, and knowledgeable,” said Jacqueline A. Travisano, executive vice president for business and finance and chief operating officer. “He brings a new approach and fresh ideas to the role of University treasurer.”

Leslie Dellinger Aceituno

Dellinger Aceituno joined the University in 1988 as a receptionist in the Office of the General Counsel. During her tenure at UM, she rose through various positions in both the Offices of the General Counsel and the Secretary/Board of Trustees before being appointed assistant secretary of the University in 2007.

Last July she assumed responsibility in the Secretary’s Office as acting secretary to the Board of Trustees, a role in which she has served as liaison between the University’s board and senior leadership, advising on various strategic and governance matters. She is responsible for providing support, planning, and coordination of important board functions.

“We all have had the pleasure to interact with Leslie, who ensures that the functions and processes of board business run seamlessly and allows us, the trustees, to get down to brass tacks,” said Richard Fain, chair of UM’s Board of Trustees. “She has certainly been a valuable resource to me as chair.”

“I am honored and humbled to serve the University as its next secretary, and am excited with the opportunity to continue working with such a passionate and dedicated group of trustees and our leadership team,” said Dellinger Aceituno.

Dellinger Aceituno has staffed the last two Presidential Search Committees charged with finding the fifth and sixth University presidents.

She has a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and an M.B.A. in management from the University of Miami, where she was a School of Business Administration fellow.

Maynard’s and Dellinger Aceituno’s appointments are effective immediately.
