What Is Social Well-Being?
Developing and maintaining connections that allow you to form a community of mutual support
Exercise Builds Kindness and Empathy
Want to boost your social life and your health at the same time? College students who stay physically active often build stronger friendships, feel more connected on campus, and have more positive interactions with others. Research shows that exercise can also increase empathy and prosocial behavior, proving that moving your body can strength both your physical wellness and your social well-being.
Stay Connected, Even When Busy
Social well-being is about feeling connected, supported, and a sense of belonging, even during busy or stressful times in the semester. As schedules fill up, it’s easy to pull away from others, but small, meaningful connections can make a big difference. Connection doesn’t have to be complicated and can look like checking in with a friend, studying together, or sharing a meal. These moments remind us that we’re not alone and that support exists within our community.
COPE (Counseling Outreach Peer Education) is a group of undergraduate Peer Educators who foster connection through open conversations about mental health and by sharing Counseling Center resources in approachable ways. Follow @cope_umiami on Instagram or University of Miami COPE on Facebook for updates and contact the UM Counseling Center at 305‑284‑5511 (press 1 for after-hours support) if you need additional help.
