Maintain Your Physical Well-Being

Use alcohol and other drugs safely

  • If using drugs, be aware of the risks of them being laced with fentanyl. Avoid
using alone and accepting drugs from others.
  • Remember the University’s medical amnesty policy. If you notice someone experiencing an emergency related to alcohol or drug use, do not hesitate to call for help.

Stay hydrated and wear sunscreen

  • Stay hydrated by ensuring you have a reusable water bottle or hydration pack. Keep in mind that drinking alcohol can exacerbate dehydration.
  • Protect yourself from the sun by wearing sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and sun protective clothing.

Practice Safer Sex

  • If engaging in sexual activity, be sure to use barrier methods such as condoms and dental dams, to minimize your risk of sexually transmitted infections. Condoms, dental dams, and lubricant can be requested for FREE through the Safer Sex Express.
  • Get tested! Regular STD screenings are key in reducing the transmission of infections. Schedule an STD screening with Student Health at MyUHealthChart.com

Do: Learn How to Use Narcan

Narcan (AKA Naloxone) is a life-saving medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose, including those caused by fentanyl. Narcan is easy to use. Narcan is available at major pharmacies, including the Walgreens at the Lennar Foundation Medical Center.

The Sandler Center, Student Health, and URecovery will be hosting Narcan trainings throughout the semester, in collaboration with the Miami Recovery Project. All attendees will receive Narcan upon completion of the training. The trainings are open to all students, faculty, and staff. | Training Dates and Pre-Register
