Dear Fellow 'Cane,
It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the tragic loss of one of our students, Nicholas “Nick” Rados, a first-year in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Geography and Sustainable Development, and a resident of Centennial Village. Nick passed away after a car accident, in which he was a passenger, in Arlington, Virginia, in the early hours of Oct. 12.
The University has been in contact with Nick’s family and friends, and we extend our deepest condolences to all who knew him.
Nick grew up in Arlington, where he was known for his dedication as both a student and an athlete, excelling in lacrosse, basketball, and golf during his time at Washington-Liberty High School. A hardworking and driven individual, his positive energy, genuine nature, and kindness made him a friend to many.
Although Nick had only been with us at the University for a short time, he quickly became a cherished member of Coral Residential College. His excitement to join the U community was clear—he attended every football game and was a regular at the Herbert Wellness Center. Nick’s warmth, inclusivity, and compassion touched everyone he met, and he was eager to make a positive impact on his new community.
Nick was passionate about business and entrepreneurship. At just 12 years old, he began buying and reselling sneakers, combining his love for streetwear with a keen sense of business. He hoped to use these interests to make a positive impact on his community. Nick’s strong character, thoughtfulness, and deep commitment to sustainability and geography reflected his desire to give back and make a difference in the world.
As we grieve this tragic loss, we ask that you keep Nick’s family and friends in your thoughts during this difficult time. The University will host an informal gathering to honor Nick’s memory on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 9:00 p.m. at the home of Dr. Karoline Mortensen, located in the Coral Residental College Faculty Apartment on the second floor. All who knew Nick are welcome to attend and share their memories of him.
