Apply to represent the University of Miami at the upcoming 2024 ACC Leadership Symposium, hosted by the University of Virginia, from February 16-18, 2024.
The Symposium is a unique opportunity for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to strengthen their leadership skills and connect with students from the other 14 ACC universities.
- Engage in Transformative Workshops: Topics will include strategic thinking and planning, effective communication and collaboration, resilience and adaptability, as well as team support and empowerment. These skills are essential for both your academic journey and your future career.
- Connect with Diverse Perspectives: As an attendee, you will have the opportunity to interact with fellow students from all 15 ACC institutions. This diverse network will expose you to a wide range of experiences and viewpoints, enriching your perspective on leadership and opening doors to lifelong friendships and collaborations.
- Travel with a Cohort + Advisor: Each ACC university is invited to select five undergraduate students, along with an advisor, to attend the symposium free of charge. All travel and lodging expenses are covered by the University of Virginia.

Empowering Future Leaders
Are you eager to harness your leadership potential and drive change? We invite you to apply for the 'Canes Ignite Mentorship Program.
Program Highlights:
- Join forces with peers, mentors (juniors/seniors), and mentees (freshmen/sophomores).
- Collaboratively craft innovative leadership workshops.
Workshops are joint planned between mentors and mentees on a wide array of topics including leadership, advocacy, civic engagement, and more. Students create engaging versatile presentations with durations ranging from 30 minutes to one hour based on their creativity. Paired with a comprehensive post-presentation assessment to measure success and guide improvements.

- Acquire valuable skills in program planning, public speaking, facilitation, and assessment.
- Assume responsibility for event planning, promotion, and execution for your workshop.

Miami Day of Service & United Black Students presents Miami Dream Day, happening January 20, 2024, from 9 AM to 3 PM. Formerly known as National Gandhi Day of Service, Miami Day promises to be the largest service day of the year! With over 15 volunteer sites to choose from, all serving the local Miami community, participants can sign up as individuals or register as a group or student organization.

Track Your Hours on Your Phone
Along with studying and hanging out at the beach with friends, community service is also a great way to make your college experience worthwhile! Community service has also been made easier with a new app called CauseConnect.
CauseConnect is an app used to track volunteer hours and connect students with different community partners in their local areas. When you put in your UM credentials it will take you to the Volunteer Portal that is managed by the Butler Center for Service and Leadership.
This app has features such as creating a calendar for your volunteering, a map feature where you can physically see where certain community partners are located, and a plethora of agencies to work with. The future of service is now at your fingertips!

Learn How to Save a Life
The Sandler Center, Student Health Service, and URecovery will be hosting Narcan/Overdose Prevention Trainings in collaboration with F Fentantyl throughout the Fall Semester. Naloxone (AKA Narcan) is a life-saving medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose. All attendees will receive Narcan upon completion of the training.

Open Now
'Canes Community Food Pantry is open for students and the UM community! The food pantry relies on donations from local food banks as well as campus partners. Anyone is welcome to use the pantry. If you don't need to use the pantry, you are welcome to stop by with donations. We accept by perishable and non-perishable items, but do ask that you consider whether your item(s) could be easily prepared by someone who may only have access to microwave or eaten without preparation.

First Star Academy is a college preparation program for high school youth affected by the foster care system. Our volunteer college mentors provide academic and life skillss upports to our youth during our nine monthly Saturday academies.

The United Nations Academic Impact and MCN proudly present the Millennium Fellowship. This program convenes, challenges, and celebrates bold student leadership advancing the Sustainable Development Goals on campus and in communities. As a Millennium Fellow, you will hone your skills, take concrete action, and earn a certificate of recognition from the United Nations Academic Impact and MCN. There is no cost for selected students. Internship Positions Available Now
Florida Right to Clean Water campaign, a citizens' initiative to amend the Florida Constitution with the right to clean and healthy waters, is currently seeking Florida college students who want to serve as college leaders for this initiative that serves as an internship and generates service learning hours. Some of the projects would include:
- Working with their college paper/media to generate awareness
- Engaging college clubs (e.g., student government, environmental clubs, as well as any club who can get their own members to sign petitions)
- Soliciting volunteers across the campus
- Planning/engaging in events where petitions can be signed

It seeks to provide the UM community with leadership and service opportunities on campus and in the Greater Miami area. The deadline for submitting an event is Tuesday at 5 pm.
