Special Edition | Hurricane Dorian

UMiami Logo

In the wake of Hurricane Dorian, it is time for the University of Miami to come together as a family and help our fellow 'Canes and communities. Many of our students, faculty, staff, alumni and other friends of the University either live in the devastated region of the Bahamas or have family and close friends that do.

In South Florida, we have seen first-hand the destruction that a hurricane can cause, so now it is time for us to support the areas affected by Hurricane Dorian and lend a helping hand. Our hearts go out to our neighbors in the Bahamian communities that have been severely impacted. As these communities begin the difficult recovery process and prepare to rebuild, they can't do it alone. 'Canes care and there are many ways you can help support those facing hardships during this time of need by assisting with various Hurricane Dorian relief efforts.

How to Help

The U Responds

As shared by President Frenk, the University of Miami is launching “The U Responds: Hurricane Dorian Response Fund,” a coordinated effort led by the Division of Development and Alumni Relations to raise funds for the University’s recovery efforts in the Bahamas.

Donation of Items

The Bahamian Students Association and the Caribbean Students Association have teamed up to coordinate a Bahamas Hurricane Relief Drive to aid in the recovery of their islands. Donations will be accepted between September 5-13 at the Whitten University Center Lower Lounge and within the Residential Colleges. The organizations will also be hosting a Relief Drive Event at the Student Center Complex Rock Plaza on September 10 and 13 from noon - 2 p.m. Below is a list of items and more information:

Monetary Donations

In the wake of a disaster, the most effective means of initial support is that of donating financially to an organization that is supporting the affected region. There are multiple ways to donate to the Bahama Relief Efforts.

Additional local and national agencies are accepting donations for specific communities affected by Hurricane Dorian. Please visit the links below and consider making a donation today:

The 'Canes family has come together many times before and it is time again to band together and help our fellow Hurricanes and those communities in need.
