Checkout Deadline
Students are expected to check out of their rooms and apartments no later than noon on Friday, May 8. If you are facing extenuating circumstances, you may request a late check-out by completing the Late Departure Request Form no later than Monday, May 4. Please note that late check-outs in most cases will not be possible. Information about summer housing is available at the bottom of this notice.
How to Check Out of your Room
To check out of the Spring 2020 assignment, complete the virtual checkout form once the belongings are completely moved out. Before completing the form, please be sure you:
- Remove any mini-fridges and microwaves (if rented from BedLoft, leave in your room but be sure it is clean and unplugged).
- Roll up area rug/carpet and leave in the center of the room if you do not want to take it with you
- Remove all trash or recyclables*
- Remove all personal belongings
- Close blinds/shutters, turn off the lights, leave A/C on low and close your door
- Drop off any temporary guest access cards you have in the Express Checkout Box at your respective front desk area (no envelope needed). DO NOT turn in your Cane Card.
- Remember, that if you purchased a futon from BedLoft, you must take it with you
*Plastic trash bags will be available at the reception desk when the desks are open. Please discard your recycling and trash bags using the trash chutes and dumpsters. You will be assessed a fine if trash is dumped or swept into hallways, stairwells, or landings. Do not stuff rolled carpets, pillows, or other large items into the trash chutes.
Carts and Move-Out Assistance
The reception desks will have a staff member present to check out carts beginning Saturday, May 2 through Friday, May 8 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Wipes will be available for students to sanitize carts prior to use.
At this time, for the health and safety of everyone, only one family member or friend may help you move out of your room. Additionally, students and their guest must wear a face covering while moving out. Masks will be available at the front desk during regular hours. Please note that no third-party vendors or moving/storage companies are allowed to be present inside any of the residential areas at any time. Students should be prepared to perform much of their own move-out by the established deadlines without significant assistance from others. Congregating in the lobbies or common spaces is prohibited.
Penalties, Charges, and Fines
If there are room damages or other charges that are identified during the post-checkout inspection, you will see those reflected in your student account. You will be charged for any missing furniture that was not removed via a Facilities work order.
Other potential fines include:
- Failure to clean room/apartment: $100
- Improper or late check out fine: $100
- Failure to rollup area rug/carpet or bag trash: $100
- Missing or damaged smoke detectors: $75
- Missing trash or recycling bin: $25 each
