Get Started!

Expanding Your Network

Your dream internship is closer than you think. Networking connects you with qualified professionals that will help your job search journey. Don't be afraid to head to networking events with these tips from LinkedIn's "Get Hired" podcast:

  • To start, identify your power circle. These are the people who already know, like and trust you. Begin by reaching out to your power circle and letting them know about your career goals.
  • When reaching out, it’s crucial to genuinely reconnect. This approach helps to rebuild the relationship and makes your request for assistance more natural and less transactional.
  • Create a spreadsheet to jot down and brainstorm everyone you know and categorize them into coworkers, professional contacts and connectors. This helps you visualize your network and identify potential connections to your target companies.
  • Lastly, remember to follow up. If someone in your network refers you to a contact or provides valuable information, circle back to thank them and let them know how things went.
