NACE Career Competency Spotlight

Career Management

Building a successful career isn’t just about landing your first job—it’s about continuously managing your professional growth. Career Management involves understanding your strengths, setting goals, and actively showcasing your value to employers.

  • Articulate Your Value
    • Know your strengths and what sets you apart. Create a personal "value proposition" that highlights your unique skills and how you can solve an employer’s challenges. Use this in cover letters, interviews, and networking conversations.
  • Track Your Achievements
    • Keep a record of accomplishments from projects, internships, or classes. This makes it easier to update your resume and helps you confidently discuss your impact in interviews.
  • Set Career Goals
    • Reflect on your short-term and long-term goals. Identify the skills you need to develop and the steps required to reach your desired career path.
Career management isn’t just for when you’re job hunting—it’s an ongoing process of self-awareness, goal-setting, and growth. Start now by crafting your value proposition and tracking your successes!
