Meet Charly, a rising star in the School of Communication who turned a summer internship into a remarkable journey of growth and connection.
This past summer, Charly served as a Multimedia Journalist Intern at NBC 6. Her experience went beyond the ordinary as she shadowed anchors, reporters, photographers, and producers, witnessing the inner workings of a newsroom.
What sets Charly apart is her drive to go beyond the shadows, taking the initiative to create her own stories and eagerly receiving feedback from their supervisors. The internship exposed Charly to diverse subjects ranging from sports to politics and entertainment.
One memorable moment was in the second week of Charly's internship when former President Donald Trump was indicted in a Miami court. Charly found themselves at the forefront of breaking news, capturing the essence of the moment and crafting her own story. To top it off, she had a front-row seat to watch NBC Nightly News with none other than Lester Holt himself!
Charly's key take away from this experience was noting the importance of being a well-rounded professional. Charly stated,
"Even though my ultimate goal is to be an on-air personality I still need to know how to shoot, edit, write, and all of the above. It makes you more marketable when you graduate and it's time to look for a job."
But it doesn't stop there. Charly noted how it's all about networking, making connections, and who you know that will help get you where you're going in the broadcast industry.
The impact of this NBC 6 internship goes beyond the summer. It's paved the way for Charly to secure yet another exciting internship opportunity, keeping them within the NBC family, this time with NBC National News!
Charly embodies the essence of turning an internship into a transformative experience and proving that your journey is what you make of it. We're proud to have Charly represent our School of Communication and can't wait to see where her passion and determination takes her next!
