The Institute for Data Science & Computing (IDSC) is broadening computational resources, services, and grants! We invite you to attend a Town Hall meeting to discover all that IDSC offers. Join us online on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, for a look at IDSC's advanced computing resources, systems and data engineering services, workforce development and educational programming, as well as our research focus areas, outreach, events, engagement opportunities, and variety of grants.

The IDSC Advanced Computing service unit business model will be reviewed, and we'll discuss our subsidy programs designed to help the heavy supercomputer users as well as the uninitiated.

IBISResearch: Agreements

This hands-on workshop focusing Agreements, is intended for administrators and researchers to learn how to navigate the system and create agreements in IBISResearch. Individuals who submit contracts or agreements to ORA regularly are encouraged to attend this workshop. Additionally, it is recommended that Individuals take the IBISResearch: Create and Submit a Proposal for a more in-depth knowledge of IBISResearch prior to attending this workshop.  

The objectives of this session are:

1. Demonstrate the new terminology and navigation of the system.

2. Practice how to create agreements in IBISResearch.

This is an elective course in the RAU Curriculum.

This class focuses on award management using IBISResearch. The hands-on workshop focuses on how to create a continuation, revision, and resubmission application, and how to request an award modification.

Science Driving Strategy: Ending the HIV Epidemic

The Miami Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), the HIV/AIDS and Emerging Infectious Disease Institute (HEIDI) and the Center for HIV and Research in Mental Health (CHARM) cordially invite you to attend the Annual HIV symposium “Science Driving Strategy: Ending the HIV Epidemic” on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

The one-day event will be in-person at the University of Miami Coral Gables Campus - Braman Miller Center, 1100 Stanford Drive, First Floor, Coral Gables.

The symposium will comprise speakers covering advances in science, implementation, stigma, and disparities.

Spring Term Salon Series

The Spring Term Salons, hosted by the University of Miami School of Architecture (U-SoA), are a series of outdoor events each Thursday evening in February for students, faculty, staff, alumni, anyone nterested in the events to learn about and discuss innovative research coming out of the U-SoA Research Labs and faculty research. 

Topic: "How to work the in-between space of research and practice," featuring the LU_Lab and curated by Chris Meyer and Shawna Meyer, Directors of the LU_Lab 

Each Salon will feature a panel presentation about the research lab or project, followed by a Q&A conversation with the audience, and an opportunity for mingling and networking over light refreshments. Click to RSVP and see full schedule.

Data Citizens Distinguished Lecture Series

Title: Artificial Intelligence, Multi-Modal Analysis, Digital Health, and Clinical Informatics

Join us for a "Data Citizens: A Distinguished Lecture Series" talk on health-related artificial intellegence methods by Joel Saltz, MD, PhD, Cherith Professor and Founding Chair, Stony Brook University, Department of Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Saltz works involves high-end and data-intensive computing, applications of machine learning and AI, pathology informatics, large-scale data analytics, and clinical informatics.

At SUNY, Dr. Saltz also serves as the Vice Chair for Laboratory Initiatives and Digital Medicine in the Department of Pathology; Vice President for Clinical Informatics, Stony Brook Medicine; Associate Director, Stony Brook Cancer Center; and Director of the Institute for Engineering Medicine.

Understanding Cost Transfers

This class provides training for the processing of both labor and non-labor cost transfers. The purpose of this course is to increase awareness and understanding of Federal regulations related to cost transfers, examine UM’s policies and procedures, and identify the process to prepare, document, approve, and submit a cost transfer.

This course highlights the importance of a well conducted informed Consent process at an academic institution and identifies the elements of compliance within this process.Attendees will be able to recognize how a well conducted informed consent process protects subjects, Principal Investigators, their research teams and the University.
