ORA New Training Curriculum

The Vice Provost for Research Office is pleased to announce the Research Administration at the U (RAU) Curriculum.  The RAU Curriculum is the University of Miami’s foundational research administration program. The RAU Curriculum is a blended approach and consists of 25-hours of instructor-led-training and computer-based learning available through Ulearn.

Upon completion of the RAU Curriculum participants will have a better understanding of research administration at the University of Miami and the tools to better manage day-to-day work tasks more effectively. In addition, participants will gain a better understanding of how their work affects compliance, reporting, and the entire research enterprise at the University of Miami.

The RAU Curriculum consists of practices and principles of research administration and includes mandatory courses required for all research administrative professionals at the University of Miami.  The purpose of the research administration training is to develop and maintain a skilled cadre of research administration professionals within the University of Miami and to promote a culture of facilitation, compliance, and integrity. The training program is for all staff members whose work supports sponsored projects.  It will include beginner, intermediate, and advanced training courses and will integrate the fundamentals of research administration, as well as best practices when engaging with ORA at the University of Miami (UM).

New and current staff in a research administration role will be required to complete the mandatory training courses to be compliant. Non-compliance will lead to the loss of system access to IBIS Research, Workday Grants, and others. The users listed on the access reports from these systems will be assigned to complete the mandatory training curriculum in ULearn. Compliance will be monitored via ULearn. Upon assignment, staff will have one year to complete the training modules before system access is revoked.

Those individuals who completed the Research Administration at the U 3- day course several years ago may request to take an exam to be exempted from this training. However, individuals who work regularly in research administration are encouraged to take the RAU Curriculum rather than request exemption The exemption exam must be passed on the first try with a score of 80%. Otherwise, the individual will be required to complete the RAU Curriculum.
