Mailman Center New Member Spotlight

Clinical Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Medicine

JoNell Potter, PhD

Dr. JoNell Potter is a Professor of Clinical Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, with joint appointments in Pediatrics and the School of Nursing. She serves as Vice Chair of Research for the Division of Reproductive Sciences and Chief of the Women’s HIV Service, directing one of the nation’s largest clinical programs for women living with HIV. Dr. Potter is a nationally recognized leader in women’s health and HIV research, having played a key role in landmark NIH studies that transformed the prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission and the management of women’s health across the lifespan. As a principal investigator on multiple federally funded programs, she has designed and implemented innovative, multidisciplinary models of care that expand access to high-quality clinical services and research opportunities for low-income and vulnerable populations. She leads a federally funded initiative addressing the needs of women who are victims of sexual trafficking and their children, and is aligned with Mailman Center priorities related to neurodevelopmental challenges resulting from maternal health, exposure to HIV, other infectious diseases, and emotional and physical trauma.  She is a collaborator with Dr. Hernandez, our Child Protection Team, and the Kristi House.
