Professor & Chair of Human Genetics
Dr. Mustafa Tekin is chair of the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics and chief of the Division of Clinical and Translational Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Ankara University and completed pediatrics and clinical genetics training in Turkey and the U.S., including a fellowship in molecular genetics/cytogenetics at the University of Miami. Board-certified in Clinical Genetics, Medical Biochemical Genetics, and Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, he directs the Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Diagnostic Laboratory, multiple fellowship programs, and the Miami site of the NIH-funded Undiagnosed Diseases Network. A clinician-scientist, Dr. Tekin provides care for patients with genetic disorders and leads research on rare diseases, including hereditary hearing loss. He also serves on the Florida Rare Disease Advisory Committee. His research and leadership is critical to the research mission of the Mailman Center that focuses on understanding contributors to neurodevelopmental disabilities and options for treatment.
