Communication is Connection
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) describes various forms of communication to support verbal speech. Please join us on October 22 between 12-4 PM on the 2nd Floor of the Mailman Center for our Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST) Lab Open House to learn more about Assistive Technology (AT) options available to help children with disabilities complete tasks at home and school. Refreshments as well as AT device demonstrations will be provided.

Family Navigator Program
The TAFT Foundation has generously provided an additional year of funding to the Family Navigator Program which supports health equity for families of children with disabilities and mental health concerns. The program offers no-cost education and connection services to the needed resources.
Family Navigator has also introduced the new Director, Paulina Wolff, a former Family Leadership in Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) trainee. As the new director, she is dedicated to seeking opportunities that will help the program grow and be replicated at higher systemic levels.

Jennifer Walton, MD, MPH, FAAP
Jennifer Walton, MD, MPH, FAAP, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Section Chief of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, was the recipient of the 2024 Society for Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (SDBP) Mid-Career Award.
Dr. Walton was selected from a review of five national nominees and received the award at the annual conference in Washington, DC. The award recognizes a mid-career member of SDBP making any combination of significant contributions in research, clinical service, teaching/education, and advocacy (for children and/or for the field of DBP).

Ruby Natale, Ph.D., Psy.D., Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, lead of the Community Wellness Interprofessional Collaborative (IPC) recently received the Dean's Community Engagement Award.
The award highlights a faculty member who has demonstrated a commitment to address and advance health equity in local communities.

Jason Jent, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Assistant Director of the Mailman Center for Child Development received the Dean's Award for Inclusive Excellence in Medical Education.
The award was given to two faculty members this year who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to expanding inclusive excellence in the medical community.

This workshop will provide an overview of pediatric music therapy, an effective intervention for pediatric communication disorders. It also focuses on music therapy services for children with developmental disabilities, including children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Participants will learn about music therapy techniques and music recommendations that can be applied to many disciplines.
