Innovation in Action
“Xavier Cortada: Climate Science Art,” a solo exhibition featuring Mailman Center member with faculty appointment in the Department of Art History, Xavier Cortada’s, climate change-focused artwork from Miami and the North and South Poles, spanning from 2007 to the present. The exhibition opened on July 10, 2024, at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. and will remain on view through Dec. 31, 2024.
Xavier Cortada also has artwork depicting the history of disability on display at the Mailman Center.

Celebrating 34 Years
July 26th marked the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This important civil rights law prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. This 9-month program will run end of September - June. The group will meet twice monthly on Thursdays from 4:30 pm-7 pm as well as 3 full-day intensives. Bioethics Workshop
On May 6, 2024, Mailman Center researchers affiliated with the departments of Psychology, Teaching & Learning, and Otolaryngology met with national experts, advocates, parents, teachers and speech-language specialists from the Debbie Institute to discuss a project funded by the National Center on Deafness and Communication Disorders. The project, led by Co-PIs Daniel Messinger and Lynn Perry, along with Dr's Ivette Cejas, Batya Elbaum, and Kenneth Goodman, explored ethical issues related to using automated sensing technologies in preschool classrooms with children who have hearing loss, emphasizing the importance of trust in research.

AIR-P Webinar Tuesday 8/20/24 @ 4PM ET
AIR-P Presents: Research Basics Training: Working Towards Inclusive Autism Research. This webinar will provide an overview of a participatory project in which a team of Autistic and non-Autistic collaborators created and delivered an adaptable, multi-modal research training curriculum for Autistic Adults to build capacity for inclusion in research, and to build transferrable skills like teamwork, consensus-oriented decision making, and effective communication. The trainees participated in focus groups to set a research agenda on gender and sexuality.
