Students Andy Co and Gianna Balli successfully litigated the Clinic’s first merits hearing in front of the Miami Immigration Court, gaining valuable hands-on skills.

Environmental Justice
Limited or no food access, affordability, and adequacy in disenfranchised communities in Miami give rise to potential human rights violations. The clinics developed a study focusing on how the current food system, laws, and regulations impact vulnerable local populations.

Human Rights
Students traveled to Geneva, Switzerland, with the Acting Director and Acting Associate Director for the Fifth Periodic Review of the United States’s compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Children & Youth Law
Law student Nelly Cabrera successfully advocated for her client in juvenile court and before the administrative foster care agency to remove a work restriction, receive a new Social Security Card, and be able to start applying for jobs.

Investor Rights
Law student Sabrina Serber attended sessions of the Securities Law Annual Meeting on cryptocurrency litigation, investment adviser arbitration, and collecting from poorly capitalized broker-dealers.

Innocence
The recognized students spent two years of work on the largest and most complicated case on the docket and drafted two of the best briefs in the case, and as a team, remained engaged and focused during the litigation process, even after the clinic received an adverse ruling.

Awards
Miami Law received the “Environmental, Social, and Governance Impact” and “Unsung Hero” awards. The former recognizes organizations demonstrating social responsibility through client-focused efforts, pro bono work, and more. The latter honored Scott Eichhorn, Director of the Investor Rights Clinic.
