The Graduate School and the Postdoctoral Programs Office are hosting the Fifth Annual Graduate + Postdoctoral Research Symposium on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 12:00-6:30pm at the Shalala Student Center on the Coral Gables Campus. This half-day symposium showcases transformative scholarly research from graduate students and postdoctoral fellows across disciplines at the University.

The Graduate School has re-opened applications for the Graduate Student Travel Support. Degree-seeking master's and doctoral students at the University of Miami are eligible to apply for one-time travel support of an amount of up $1,000 to present at a scholarly conference or to present and/or attend a professional meeting. The University of Miami Institute for Advanced Study of the Americas is pleased to again award Tinker Foundation Field Research Grants for masters, doctoral, and professional school graduate students conducting pre-dissertation fieldwork. As early career grants, the Tinker FRGs are aimed at helping graduate students at UM to develop cutting-edge research projects and gain firsthand knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean. These experiences significantly increase the ability of graduate students to secure external funding for their subsequent research. In honor and celebration of Black History Month, the Black Musicians’ Caucus (BMC) has partnered with Frost’s School Culture, Equity, and Diversity Committee (SCED) to bring alive an expansive student showcase that highlights Black musical contributions of the past and present.
Featuring works exclusively by Black composers, this show explores the unique trials, tribulations, and triumphs of the African diaspora. Including performances by members of the Frost Jazz Vocal Performance Studio, Studio Music and Jazz Department, Contemporary department, Choral Studies Department, Classical department, the University of Miami Gospel Choir, various chamber ensembles, as well as talented artists of different disciplines across the UM campus, this program will be both a celebration of Black Joy and a powerful reminder that Black history, Black culture, and Black stories are essential to the ongoing story of this nation. The sixth annual Mentoring and Advising Summit hosted by the University of Pittsburgh is to explore how to continue to build a strong culture of inclusion and belonging through mentoring and advising.
During this virtual summit, participants will engage with and learn about specific tools, techniques, theories, and concepts to support undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdocs as they chart goals, develop enduring networks of colleagues and mentors, and sustain their pursuit of success after graduation.
