The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, Office of Civic and Community Engagement, and the Butler Center for Service and Leadership organize the Racial Justice Grant Program to support research, service, and/or programmatic activities that center on race, racial justice, and racial equity. We seek to support teams of students, faculty, staff, and community partners to implement tangible initiatives to fight racism. Racial Justice Grant Program applications are solicited to support community-based scholarship and activities that will promote lasting change in our local and/or campus communities related to racial justice. The Office of Civic and Community Engagement in partnership with the UM School of Law and the department of Geography is investigating the relationship between climate impacts and urban displacement. The Climate Gentrification: Designing A Comprehensive Assessment Tool of Historical, Social, and Geographic Factors to Guide Actionable and Equitable Neighborhood Resilience project addresses the growing interest and limitations in existing research on the relationship between climate impacts and urban displacement. The VISTA Summer Associate will support the efforts of the Changing Neighborhood Data Analytics VISTA project through identifying the pressures and pain points of gentrification and urban displacement caused by climate impacts. They will also support UM's interdisciplinary team to engage with communities experiencing development pressure. Program start and end dates: May 23, 2022 - July 29, 2022. To learn more, click here.

The Office of Civic and Community Engagement at the University of Miami is looking for a Graduate Assitant Coordinator to enhance the delivery of the Civic Engagement High School Partnership Program. This program connects University of Miami students with local High School teachers in history, language arts, and STEM fields to enhance the curriculum, give guest lectures and hands-on demonstrations, mentor students and promote a college-going culture among underserved youth. The University of Central Florida hosted the 2022 Conference of Florida Graduate Schools (CFGS) on April 19th-20th. The UM Graduate School sponsored the participation of several graduate students. Brandon Applewhite, Brittney Davis, Kayla Minesinger, Larissa Montas Bravo, Sameena Sheikh-Wu, and Leonor Teles gave poster presentations, and Joan Brown and Liv Williamson competed in the state-wide Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition.
