This week-long graduate student professional development conference will include sessions and speakers covering: national best practices; ways to pivot and recalculate; bespoke immersive experiences and learning cohorts; mentorship; and innovation and entrepreneurship-- all designed to provide practical advice and meet the unique interests of graduate students. The theme of the 2021 GradFUTURES Forum is "Broadening the Impact of the Ph.D. Within and Beyond the Academy" and the goal is to accelerate connections among and between graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and leaders from the academic, public, and private sectors. The Forum prepares graduate students to make meaningful contributions within diverse fields of endeavor in ways that expand knowledge, accelerate discovery, and serve humanity.

Postdoctoral positions are available to work with the Emory Global Diabetes Research Center (EGDRC) and the Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research (GCDTR), Emory University, Atlanta, USA. EGDRC and GCDTR have established partnerships with a global and US network of significant collaborators in diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) research. The Fellows will be involved in innovative observational, experimental, and translational science studies of diabetes biology, etiology, prevention, and treatment in the United States and South Asia (India and Pakistan). Candidates should have a doctoral degree in epidemiology, nutrition, behavioral sciences, demography, or related field with strong statistical analysis and programming skills. Substantive knowledge of diabetes, obesity, CVD, and the social determinants framework is a plus. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong organizational and record-keeping skills; fluent English writing and verbal skills; and an enthusiasm for inter-disciplinary engagement.

The University of Miami Libraries offers introductory mindfulness sessions for cultivating calm and focus. These 60-minute sessions, held every Wednesday from 4:00-5:00 p.m., introduce the fundamentals of mindfulness with periods of guided practice and opportunities for reflection and questions. The Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program is now accepting applications for its annual funding program. The SCGSR program provides supplemental funds for graduate awardees to conduct part of their thesis research at a host Department of Energy laboratory/facility. Graduate students conducting research in Microelectronics, Data Science, Conservation Laws and Symmetries, and Accelerator Science are especially encouraged to apply.
