Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that Mary Beth Briscoe has been named chief financial officer for UHealth and the Miller School of Medicine. Mary Beth will begin on May 7th.

Mary Beth is an outstanding leader and renowned finance professional joining us from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she serves as CFO of University Hospital and UAB Medicine Clinical Operations. UAB University Hospital is the largest academic medical center in Alabama, and one of the largest academic medical centers in the nation.

Prior to joining UAB Medicine 16 years ago, Mary Beth was CFO of Eastern Health System in Birmingham. She received her B.S. in Accounting from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, and a MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Mary Beth is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA), and a Fellow of The American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). She presently serves as National Chair for the Academic Medical Center CFO Council and is a member of the National Thought Leadership initiative. She has authored multiple articles for various industry periodicals and is an invited speaker by healthcare constituents across the country.

As CFO, Mary Beth will be responsible for the financial success of the Miller School of Medicine and UHealth, allowing us to reinvest in ourselves – our faculty, staff, infrastructure, research, education, and patient care. She will lead financial planning for strategic initiatives that will further establish our role as a pre-eminent academic medical center. Mary Beth will have oversight of short and long-term forecasting, managed care contracting and other financial operations, and will help us achieve the financial goals necessary for the success of our medical center.

We are confident that Mary Beth will be a transformational addition to our leadership team, and we look forward to working closely with her not only to achieve the five key goals outlined in the 5 to Thrive initiative but also to position us for success and future growth.

Please join us in welcoming Mary Beth to the University of Miami.
