New Requirements for Accessing the On Campus Network, UMiamiWireless – Starting May 20, 2024
Dear Coral Gables and Marine Campus Faculty and Staff,
As the University of Miami continually evaluates the current state of information security to ensure the safety and soundness of the systems we manage and the data they contain, we will be implementing a new technology solution, network access control (NAC), at the Coral Gables and Marine campuses effective May 20, 2024.
There is no action required on your part for NAC to be enabled.
What is changing?
- As of May 20, the NAC solution will ensure that only approved University of Miami users with appropriately secured devices can log on to our private* wireless or wired network, UMiamiWireless.
*Please keep in mind that you can obtain internet connection instantly via our public CanesGuest wireless network. Connecting devices to the UMiamiWireless network is optional.
What about devices that have recently connected to UMiamiWireless?
- Our intent is to minimize disruption to University operations as the NAC solution is rolled out. Devices that have recently connected to the UMiamiWireless network will continue to connect seamlessly.
What happens after NAC is enabled?
- New computers attempting to connect to the UMiamiWireless network must be issued by the University. Non-UM-issued computers connected to the University's private network can create security-related issues.
- Mobile devices (iPhones, iPads, and Androids) that have not recently connected will need to be enrolled in mobile device management (MDM) to connect to UMiamiWireless.
