Upcoming Duo MFA Authentication Changes to Protect the University Community

Dear University of Miami Community,

There has been an escalation in cybercriminals targeting universities and healthcare organizations by attempting to send fraudulent Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA) requests. To minimize risk to the University community and further secure access to sensitive information, the changes listed below will be implemented as indicated.

On Monday, April 11, University of Miami community members will have two options to authenticate via Duo using the following secure methods:

Passcode via the Duo mobile app

  • Within the Duo mobile app, you are able to quickly generate a passcode. This works anywhere, even in places where you do not have an Internet connection or cellular service.

Passcode via SMS text

  • To have Duo text a batch of passcodes to your mobile phone, click the Text me new codes button after clicking Enter a Passcode in the Duo authentication prompt.

To assist in this transition, tip sheets on using these access methods are provided within the Duo MFA service page.
