A New State of Business Travel:

Make the Best Out of Your Travel Portal

Business travel has made a strong comeback far ahead of industry predictions, but the travel industry continues to experience difficulties and delays. Throughout the past few weeks, thousands of flights have been canceled in the United States alone. Impacted carriers include Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, American Airlines, and more.

Many travelers have encountered unplanned travel disruptions which have resulted in extended wait times when contacting airlines and travel agents. Did you know that the University of Miami's Travel Portal houses a self-service booking tool?

Here are few tips that will simplify your travel reservation process while reducing the need to call a live agent:

  • Have an active Travel Profile. Only current University of Miami students, faculty, and staff can create a profile.
  • We recommend including your airline reward numbers in your profile or during your reservation. Ticketed trips will sync to your airline account, where you can proceed to purchase upgrades or trip add-ons.
  • If you need real-time assistance to complete your online booking, please contact Travel Inc. technical support at 866-738-6444.
  • Both the Travel Portal self-booking tool and the e-itinerary allow you to cancel and change most flights online, without having to contact a travel agent.
  • Take advantage of our portal tip sheets to make your booking process a breeze, or sign up for an upcoming travel portal demo.

University of Miami Travel Management is committed to providing a seamless travel experience. Safe travels!

Travelers Beware:

Basic Economy Class Tickets

Selecting the basic economy class option is strongly discouraged. Basic economy purchases can result in a non-refundable and non-exchangeable ticket, and other caveats could leave travelers paying as much or more that if they had purchased a regular, main cabin fare.

Common restrictions of purchasing a basic economy ticket can include no seat assignments, last boarding groups, last to be reaccommodated during airline cancellations, and limited to one carry-on bag.

Although the University has several discounted and benefit contracts with major airlines, basic economy tickets holders will not be able to take advantage of many contracted perks.

Travel Portal Mythbusters

Myth: My flight was canceled because I used the Travel Portal.

Fact: The travel industry is experiencing changes like never before. Flights are being canceled and delayed due to several variables, such as staff shortages, new airplane delays, and severe weather conditions. After purchase, your flight ticket will only be canceled should the airline itself experience a change that impacts your travels.
