A New State of Business Travel:

Make the Best Out of Your Travel Portal

There is no question that the world has begun to enter a new normal, and this includes the travel industry as well. As of November 8, the U.S. began to allow fully vaccinated, foreign nationals to travel into the country through both land and air borders. While the industry adapts to a rapid increase in travel needs, business travelers are experiencing more cancellations and changes to their itineraries than ever before. This has resulted in higher call volumes and wait times for travelers to get help.

Business travelers need more information and Duty of Care than ever before. Due to this, executive leadership communicated to the University of Miami community that "University travelers or their travel arrangers are required to reserve business-related airfare through the University's travel portal." The University of Miami Travel Portal provides employees and students access to book their business travels through both a self-booking tool and a dedicated travel agent.

Here are a few tips to make the best out of your Travel Portal experience:

  • Utilize the self-booking tool in the Travel Portal for simple bookings. You can sign up for one of our demos to see the system live.
  • Please complete your travel profiles before contacting a Travel Inc. agent. This will save agents time when booking.
  • Are you someone who books travel for other employees or students at the University? Encourage them to add you as a travel assistant. This will save you time when booking.
  • Remember that there are more ways to connect with a travel agent than through the phone. You can utilize the chat or email an agent through a function found in the Travel Portal.
  • Most changes or cancellations to an existing trip can be completed through the Travel Portal's self-booking tool.
  • Need to add a seat assignment or check a bag? You can do that on your airline's website or app by using your record locator number.
  • Watch out for the following Travel Portal enhancements coming soon:
    • Ability to cancel your reservation directly from your Travel Inc. e-Itinerary.
    • Call center operations updates designed to improve the user experience, with a focus on education and expansion for self-service options.

Visit the University of Miami Travel Management Website for more information on the Travel Portal.

Travel Portal Mythbusters

Myth: I will lose all my status perks by booking on the portal.

Fact: You can book your tickets at our negotiated prices through the Travel Portal and include an airline rewards number. Your booking will automatically be shared with the airline and will be found in your airline app. Your standard status perks will still be honored, only now, you are considered both a status member and business traveler.
