SELF-IDENTIFICATION OF

DISABILITY AND VETERAN STATUS

Dear Colleagues,

As you know, the University of Miami is a federal contractor and is subject to certain federal laws and regulations pertaining to equal employment and affirmative action. Regulations require us to invite all employees to self-identify their disability status at least once every five years. Please keep in mind that providing any information at all about your disability is strictly voluntary and will not be used against you in any way. You are not required to provide your disability status as a condition of continued employment. The protected veteran or disability status of individual employees is kept confidential in accordance with federal laws and regulations.

Employees may voluntarily self-identify their disability and/or veteran status at any time through the Personal Information page in Workday. To update your personal information, please review this tip sheet. It is also the University of Miami’s policy to provide reasonable accommodation to employees in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended. For more information on disability resources and accommodations, please visit hr.miami.edu/disabilities.

Although you may have voluntarily provided your protected veteran status when you were hired, we would appreciate you updating this information.

It is important to us that you understand why you are being asked to disclose this information and what the University intends to do with the information you provide. The information you provide will help us, at the aggregate data level, evaluate the effectiveness of our equal employment and affirmative action efforts, as a federal grant recipient.

If you have any questions about the protected veteran or disability status self-identification process, please contact Human Resources Workplace Equity and Performance office at wep@miami.edu.

Thank you.
