Residents Recycle Right
Since 2019, the University has implemented a plastic bag reduction strategy. The bookstore, the farmers market, concessions, and even franchises like Subway transitioned to paper bags. Today, plastic bags are also making our recycling processes more difficult, especially in residential areas. Campus residents are invited to help by NOT DUMPING PLASTIC BAGS in recycling containers or chutes. Watch the video

The University of Miami started 2025 on a green note! Our ranking went up from #26 to #13 in the Princeton Review Top 50 Green Colleges. This very competitive list highlights institutions with excellent "sustainability practices, a strong foundation in sustainability education, and a healthy quality of life for students on campus." Sustainability Scholar
The UM Sustainability Scholar Program’s goal is for students to further incorporate sustainability into their curriculum and cultivate leadership skills in promoting sustainability on campus and beyond. Students are encouraged to think critically about what economic, environmental, and social factors advance or inhibit long-term sustainability goals.The next deadline to submit applications is February 28, 2025. Environmental Law
The Environmental Law Program in the School of Law is starting 2025 strong with Books and Brews, featuring Prof. Robert Verchick, climate law scholar and author of the award-winning "The Octopus in the Parking Garage", and Alex Harris, Miami Herald's lead climate change reporter. Books and Brews will take place on January 23, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Gail Serota Reading Room in the Law Library. Reception will follow at the Bass Bricks (the School of Law courtyard). With the session led by Ms. Harris, Prof. Verchick will discuss his book, focusing on the key themes of risk management, adaptation, and climate resilience as climate justice.
