This Spring semester, student and staff residents will have a better option for glass recycling: collect your glass bottles and jars, and dispose of them safely in the secured Glass 4 Life cart located next to the Ozzi machine at the Mahoney Pearson Dining Hall. The glass collected will be recycled by being pulverized into sand that is used for hurricane bags, landscaping and farming. This program is brought to you by Student Government ECO Agency. Did you know that all veggie scraps from the university dining halls and food court are composted! Kitchen staff are trained to sort their cuttings into special pink bins for composting. The more than 40 tons of veggie scrap a year is turned by Compost for Life into soil that small farmers in the Redland area can use on their field. Learn more

UM Dining is bringing reusable OZZI take-out containers to the dining halls! Purchase your $6 OZZI container from the cashier in either dining hall, fill it with your favorite foods, and take your meal to-go. Since 2019, the university has implemented a plastic bag reduction strategy. The bookstore,the farmers market, concessions and even franchises like Subway transitioned to paper bags. Today, plastic bags are also making our recycling processes more difficult, especially in residential areas. Campus residents are invited to help by NOT DUMPING PLASTIC BAGS in recycling containers or chutes. Watch the video
