Green Operations

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Students, faculty, and staff now have broader access to EV charging stations. As part of a partnership with Florida Power & Light (FP&L), and in collaboration with UM Parking & Transportation and the Office of Sustainability, the University of Miami has installed 18 new EV charging stations on campus. Parking permit holders can charge for a maximum of four hours at the following locations: Levante garage (6), Albenga garage (4), Mahoney-Pearson garage (4), Cox Annex parking lot (2), and Allen Hall parking lot (2). For more information, contact parking.gables@miami.edu.

Compost at Mahoney Pearson

This semester, we started a new kitchen composting pilot program at the Mahoney-Pearson dining hall with Compost4life. This locally based composter is helping the University divert food waste from landfill, and help small farmers in Miami-Dade with fresh compost. We already diverted 1,000 lbs. of food waste in two weeks, offsetting 800 lbs. of CO2! For more information, contact greenu@miami.edu.

Help us understand the U's commuting emissions! If you are a student, faculty, or staff, please take a moment to complete this short mobility survey about your modes of transportation to and from campus. This data will allow us to build out a campus-wide dashboard on sustainable behaviors at the U. We thank you in advance for your participation!

Green Programs

Electronic Waste Recycling

The UM Campus Store offers electronic waste recycling services for all students, faculty, and staff. If your personal laptop or electronic equipment is not eligible for the Trade It In program featured in the store, make sure it will be recycled safely via the "e-scrap" program! Ask an associate to help you properly dispose of your electronic device.

Recycle for a Cause!

Support the Sustainability Initiative student group at the Marine campus by collecting empty cans and bottles! For every plastic bottle or aluminum can recycled in the Reverse Vending Machine (RVM), the sustainability initiative earns a donation. The RVM is located on the Coral Gables campus at the Hurricane Food Court. The Marine campus also has two red RVM collection bins located in Salt. Divert plastic bottles and aluminum cans from the landfill while also supporting the Sustainability Initiative!
