Solar Together at the U

Beginning this summer, the University of Miami will join a voluntary Florida Power & Light (FP&L) program to provide more solar energy to its campuses. The University will soon become one of the largest higher education institutions in Florida to harness solar energy to power nearly all of its campuses, allowing a drastic reduction of its carbon footprint. Housing & Residence Life wants you to Green Your Move Out—on May 3-May 15 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., you can donate your big items and electronic waste to the Goodwill containers located at each of the on campus residential buildings. Learn more.


The 'Canes Community Pantry is a student-led initiative by Student Government's ECO Agency and UM's Food Recovery Network that aims to end food insecurity and food waste on our campus. Donate using this link:

Virtual Field Trip: Earth Day With the 'Canes

Miami Dade students K-12 had a chance to celebrate Earth Day with the Miami Hurricanes! They took a virtual trip with the Athletics department and Green U to learn about the importance of protecting our planet! Watch the video.

Wellbeing in the Garden

The Sustainability Garden in the Arboretum will have a weekly maintenance hour: Wednesdays from 4-5 p.m. Faculty and staff get 100 points on their Well 'Canes card for 1 hour of volunteering (2 hours = 200 points max). Sustainability 101 Webinar

Get basic training in sustainability, including recycling, energy conservation, water conservation, green purchasing and printing, nature conservation, green outreach, and leadership. Be a green champion in the workplace and get your office Green U certified—plus, your team might be eligible for 50 points on their Well 'Canes card. Next session: May 28.
