Xavier Cortada, artist and faculty at the University of Miami, has brought his Plan(T) participatory eco-art project to the Coral Gables campus. Currently, hundreds of red mangrove propagules are hanging on the windows of the Richter Library and the Lennar Foundation Medical Center. This project aims to generate awareness about global climate change, sea-level rise, and saltwater intrusion, culminating on Earth Day where everyone in the UM community will be invited to take a mangrove home to plant in their yard.
