Get Involved

Do you want to work on an exciting, on-campus Green U project? Or do you have a project idea that would help UM become more sustainable? Your ideas can help us reduce our carbon and water footprints, enhance our recycling programs, and even start an educational campaign. To get involved, visit the Green Student Organizations webpage or contact the ECO Board Chair, Talula Thibault, at: tbt18@miami.edu.

Sustainability Performance

U Conserve Summer Competition

On Monday, June 3, UM's Coral Gables campus buildings started competing for the top ten buildings that conserve the most energy. The winners will be invited to a special U Conserve luncheon in August! Visit miami.edu/energy for more information, and review our new Building Energy Storyboard to start looking at your energy consumption.

Recycling Programs

Office Paper

UM wants to be at the forefront of better, cleaner recycling practices in our region – and with your help, we can get there! Soon, you will see new paper recycling signage in your copier area. Here's what you need to know:

  • Take your clean office paper to the bin located in your copier area (either the tall blue bin or the grey rolling cart).
  • Keep on recycling your empty cans, bottles, lightweight cardboard, and newspapers in your kitchen/lounge/hallway tall blue recycling bins – but NOT in the copier area, nor in the grey rolling carts.

For more information, please visit: miami.edu/recycle.

Flavia Coffee Pouches

If your office is using the Flavia coffee machine and you feel bad when sending all those plastic pouches to landfill, this program is for you!

Order your FREE recycling pre-paid boxes now: Log in to Workday, click Purchases, select Connect to Supplier Website, and press the Connect button to log into UMarketplace. Under Showcases, select Canteen (under Food/Beverage Services) and search for: TerraCycle Medium Flavia Packet Recycling Box.

For more information, please visit: miami.edu/greenoffice.
