A cluttered home, office, or workspace can negatively impact your mood, and sense of well-being. Most people utilize the “3 lacks” as reasons to avoid decluttering:
- Lack of time
- Lack of resources
- Lack of ability
While we all lead busy lives, it is important to carve out some time to go through drawers, closets, bookshelves, car glove compartments, etc., and let go of items that are no longer used or needed. Remember to only keep the items that add value to your life. Organizations like The Caring Place, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Salvation Army can schedule a pickup at your home and will use your donations to serve the needs of the homeless and veterans accordingly.
Enlisting a good friend or family member to help you de-clutter is also recommended as they can help keep you energized once you get started. For additional encouragement embark on the minimalist challenge for 30 days. It is quite simple, on day one you get rid of one item, on day two you get rid of two items and so it goes on until you reach day thirty in which you get rid of thirty items. For additional inspiration watch “The Minimalists: Less is Now” show on Netflix.
