Leap into Well-being: 28-day Challenge

by Pilar Tamburrino, M.S., LMHC, CEAP, Assistant Director, FSAP

“The only person you should strive to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.” – Matty Mullins

The start of each new year brings new opportunities for us to connect, thrive and transform our lives. We are once again confronted with developing our intentions to eat healthier, exercise more, and become a better version of ourselves. The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is bringing back “Leap into Well-being,” a 28-day challenge in February offering UM employees an opportunity to actively participate in webinars and activities meant to improve our collective well-being.

This year, we will have a Leap Dance Kick-off with guest facilitator, Carol Kaminsky on February 1st to inspire, energize and activate our bodies and minds.

2023 Leap into Well-being, has four weekly themes: happiness, balance, wellness, and patience. Our easy-to-follow month-long calendar of daily activities and practices have been selected to motivate you to thrive and grow. We encourage you to engage in as many activities as you can accomplish and attend our weekly 30-minute webinars which reinforce each week’s theme.

Well-being is the experience of health, happiness, and prosperity. It includes having good mental health, high life satisfaction, a sense of meaning or purpose, and the ability to manage stress. Research indicates that four areas: awareness, connection, insight, and purpose contribute to well-being and can be cultivated through daily practice and scientifically measured. Many of the practices in our 28-day challenge reflect these areas of ongoing growth and development.

Additional information will be forthcoming on how to register in ULearn.

The calendar of activities will be made available on Feb. 1, 2023.

As an incentive to participate in “Leap into Well-being” 2023, you will have the opportunity to receive 300 Well 'Canes points for completing 15 activities/practices or more. In addition, you will be eligible to receive 50 Well 'Canes points for your attendance in the weekly webinars up to a maximum of 200 Well 'Canes points for webinar attendance in February. In other words, you could potentially receive 500 Well 'Canes points in the month of February by simply engaging in the daily activities and attending all 4 webinars!  As a bonus, those who complete 15 or more activities will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible to participate in a raffle.

We hope you will join us. Here’s to your well-being!
