You are receiving this information as a designated I-9 verifier for student employees.
As a result of our transition to COVID-19 operations in March 2020, a precaution was implemented by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that student employees were allowed to complete the I-9 document verification process remotely.
Now, to be in compliance with the DHS, we are required to retroactively return to an IN PERSON I-9 amendment process.
This will impact students who were hired and/or re-verified between 03/20/2020 and 09/30/2022. The students assigned to your organization are listed in Workday.
Step-by-step instructions for in-person I-9 verification are available here.
It’s important to note, in order to successfully amend an I-9, you must enter the Reason for changes twice. Once in Section 2 and again for Attachments.
- In section 2 of the comment section be sure to include the phrase “Documents physically examined” then submit
- Under the attachments section (copy of documents) also include the phrase “Documents physically examined” in the comment section, then submit.
