Medical Wellness Center Hosts Second Integrative Medicine Symposium and Expo
On the second floor of the Medical Wellness Center on Friday morning, two students were mimicking the fluid moves of master trainer Jef Morris as he led a Tai Chi class; around the corner several students and staff waited in line as three others took a few minutes to lie on Biomats, large therapeutic sleeping mats that warm the body through a combination of infrared rays, negative ions and amethyst quartz. Downstairs, the Wellness Center’s main floor was busy, too. Observers and participant observers alike gathered in several rooms for acupuncture; hot and cold therapeutic laser stimulation; Neuro Emotional Technique, a therapy that uses Eastern-style healing methods to combat emotional stress; and for various seminars led by Richard Delaney, M.D., Hal S. Blatman, M.D., and other well known speakers in the fast growing field of integrative medicine. For the second time, the Miller School’s Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine joined with the Medical Wellness Center, several other departments and a few affiliated agencies to host the annual Integrative Medicine Symposium and Expo on Friday and special Saturday sessions in clinical nutrition. Friday’s smorgasbord of complementary medicine seminars and demonstrations drew a crowd of several hundred to the Medical Wellness Center where opening remarks were given by Dean Pascal J. Goldschmidt, M.D., who continued to put his full support behind the growth of integrative medicine at the Miller School. | |
