Announcing New System for University's Research Community

eProst, the electronic protocol submission and tracking system, has been re-designed and improved to provide a more thorough, efficient, and effective experience for the University's research community, institutional review board (IRB) members, and HSRO personnel. The first phase of the eProst Re-Deployment commenced on September 18th, 2006. Pilot-testing of the workflow process within eProst will begin with the Department of Ophthalmology on November 1st, 2006.

This pilot-testing will provide an on-line, paper-less study and amendment submission process to investigators, a means by which investigators may track the progress of their submissions through the HRPP system, and the capability for IRB members to conduct reviews on-line. Other departments will be "phased-in" starting January, 2007. The HSRO estimates a 5-phase deployment for the Medical Campus. In addition, only multi-site clinical pharmaceutical studies will be sent to WIRB. Investigators whose studies are currently assigned to WIRB will be required to complete both WIRB forms and eProst forms for local management of their studies. This redundancy should be minimized after the first submission.

A meeting to further explain eProst will be held on Thursday. Full details are listed under the events section of today's E-Update. For more information, please see the HSRO website at https://eprost.med.miami.edu/eprost or contact the eProst Helpdesk, 305-243-3195.

Richard Weisman, Pharm.D., Honored for Work During Hurricanes

Richard Weisman, Pharm.D., director of the Florida Poison Information Center, has recieved “The American Society of Health System Pharmacists, Executive Vice President’s Award for Courageous Service.” Dr. Weisman served as the Deputy Commander of an emergency field hospital which was deployed last year during Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Dennis. In the hours immediately after those storms, the hospital provided emergency medical and surgical care for more than 3,000 patients.

new  IntelliDose Goes Live

On September 18, the IntelliDose system went live for all users at UM/Sylvester. IntelliDose, a leading Hematology-Oncology care software support system, offers providers and staff treatment plans used by the UM providers, organized by site disease group. This will allow physician order entry that creates a nursing documentation system directly tied to each order. It also creates a patient-friendly treatment calendar.

In addition to patient and physician benefits, pharmacists benefit with legible orders that are queued systematically to the pharmacy. Additionally, the orders that are built into IntelliDose are simultaneously built in the PharmNet pharmacy system for added efficiency and patient safety.

UM/Sylvester research scientists will benefit from real-time electronic data access for investigative protocols. IntelliDose will be available to approved users from anywhere via VPN or Citrix access. IntelliDose will be implemented in the CTU (both bed and chair), inpatient, the Hematology-Oncology Clinic, the GYO Clinic and physician offices. For more information, please contact the University of Miami Clinical Enterprise Technologies Help Desk at 305-243-7339.
