alumni from the Miller School of Medicine were presented with the Distinguished
Alumni Award this past October. Barry Materson, M.D. ’62, is a
tenured professor of medicine at the Miller School of Medicine. Ray Lopez,
M.D. ’63, is emeritus clinical professor of neurology at the Miller
School of Medicine and has been nominated by his peers many times for
Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors in South Florida. Jeffrey Raskin,
M.D. ’65, is professor of medicine, oncology and pediatrics and
chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at the Miller School of Medicine.
Elliott Stein, M.D. ’73, is clinical associate professor of psychiatry
at the Miller School of Medicine and the recipient of the prestigious
Founder’s Award from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.
Paul Wetter, M.D. ’75, is an internationally recognized leader
in minimally invasive surgery and serves as chairman and executive director
of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.
Addressing the critical need for additional scholarship support for
UM medical students, Kenneth Rothenberg, M.D. ’67, announced a $100,000
commitment for scholarships through the Aaron and Sylvia Rothenberg Foundation.
