Center employees interested in shaving time off their commutes converged
on the Alamo in October to take a look at the Neighborhood Housing Showcase.
Developers of construction projects within a one-and-one-half mile radius
shared plans and information about the new housing coming to the area.
The showcase was sponsored by The Miami Partnership, a new initiative
spearheaded by the City of Miami and the University that aims to transform
the Civic Center area into an ideal place in which to work, live, and
play.

Seniors Learn About
Medicare Drug Program
o help
Medicare beneficiaries better understand the Medicare-Approved Drug Discount
Card program, the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health partnered
with the American Academy of Family Physicians and its foundation, the
Florida Academy of Family Physicians, the National Family Caregivers Association,
and Pfizer Inc. to sponsor Senior Rx Savings Week. The free six-day, bilingual
educational program for Miami seniors and family caregivers took place
in late October at the Jefferson Reaves Sr. Health Center in Overtown.
During the preview, seniors and family caregivers
met with physicians who reviewed their medications, and they watched
presentations on how the new
program works, how to navigate the medicare.gov Web site, and where
to find other resources to help understand the choices available to
seniors.

School of Medicine Hosts Special Screening
for Haiti Documentary

Green Family Foundation Health Initiative in Pediatric Infectious Diseases
and Immunology and International Health, a collaborative program
combining the efforts of the Miller School of Medicine’s Department
of Pediatrics and Project Medishare, hosted a special screening of a
new documentary, Once There Was a Country: Revisiting Haiti. The film,
produced by Green Family Foundation president Kimberly Green and Wassim
Serhan, takes a poignant look at the poverty and health conditions in
Haiti. It was unveiled at an invitation-only event at the Lois Pope LIFE
Center.
