The Miami Institute for Human Genomics is proud to welcome a world-renowned leader in Alzheimer's research, Gary Small, M.D., Parlow-Solomon Professor on Aging, professor of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences, and director of the Center on Aging and the Geriatric Psychiatry Division at UCLA Health System in California. Dr. Small will present "Banishing the Senior Moment: Detection and Prevention of Age-Related Cognitive Decline." Saturday, August 15, 2009 8 a.m. Third Annual Greater Miami Association of Diabetes Educators Seminar

The Greater Miami Association of Diabetes Educators will present its third annual diabetes education seminar this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Baptist Hospital. The program, covering a broad range of diabetes-related topics, will provide six continuing education units and UM faculty and staff are encouraged to prepare a display table to present diabetes education initiatives being conducted at the Miller School.

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology will host Jeff Gerst, Ph.D., associate professor of molecular genetics at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, for a seminar this Thursday at noon in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, conference room 6018. Dr. Gerst will present "The mRNA Localizome: A Whole Genome in Transit?"

The seminar, sponsored by Women in Academic Medicine, will be presented by Sherri H. Wednesday, October 07, 2009 8 a.m. LEND Conference: “Session A: Emerging Topics in Autism”

The Training Division of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program will present a conference titled "Session A: Emerging Topics in Autism." The conference will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Mailman Center for Child Development, eighth-floor auditorium. Speakers include Jeffrey Brosco, M.D., Ph.D., professor of clinical pediatrics; Heather Henderson, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology; Daniel S. Messinger, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology; John Gilbert, Ph.D., professor of human genetics; and Robert Tuchman, M.D., voluntary associate professor of neurology.

The conference is approved for seven continuing education units for psychologists, social workers and speech language pathologists/audiologists and 6.75 continuing education units for occupational therapists and physical therapists.
