The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science's William Drennan and two other UM professors led 11 students on a journey through Iceland, Finland, England, and Norway that retraced the footsteps of Viking explorers and poets—and opened their eyes to another geological, historical, and cultural world.

A group of researchers who are advocates for the humanities at UM and two other universities have received a $1.1 million grant from the Mellon Foundation to study how the public perceives the humanities and how the news media portrays them.
