UNDERGRADUATE ADVISING

Course Registration and Remote Learning Processes

Beginning Dec. 7, continuing students may begin course registration for Spring 2021. Academic advisors have already started to meet with students to advise on course planning and registration. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisors to review degree requirements and cognates.

All academic advising is being conducted via phone or on Zoom/Skype. Please have your student watch for communications from their academic advisors, especially if they have an advising hold. Registration will be done online through CaneLink.

To be considered a full-time student this Spring, your student must enroll in at least 12 credits. There is also a quick guide on registration in CaneLink to make it even easier to navigate.

Remote Learning will be available for Spring 2021. Students have from Dec. 2-22 to request remote learning. Please note any requests after the deadline will not be accepted. For more information, please visit the remote learning website.

In addition to Spring 2021, the University offers 50 courses throughout three Winter Intercessions all in an online modality. These credit courses provide an opportunity for students to enhance their educational goals in a concentrated time period.

COVID-19 UPDATES

As your student prepares to return to the University in January, please ensure that they continue to monitor their University email and coronavirus.miami.edu for the latest information.  In the weeks ahead, students will receive specific messages regarding their safe travel to campus, pre-arrival and on-campus testing, isolation/quarantine procedures, flu shots, and more.

HOUSING UPDATES

HOUSING AND RESIDENTIAL LIFE

Housing Sign-Ups for 2021-2022

With the fall semester coming to a close, the application and room selection process for 2021-2022 housing is rapidly approaching. It may seem far away, but the spring 2021 semester will just have started when the application opens on January 27. To help facilitate this conversation, here’s a list of questions to consider:

  • Have you thought about where your student is going to live next year: on-campus or off-campus?
  • Any idea who they want to live with next year or are they thinking about trying to get a single room/apartment?
  • If they’re planning to live with a roommate(s), did you know that their priority can be slightly higher if your student has one or more roommates and fills a whole apartment or suite?
  • What is your student’s back-up plan if their preferred housing option is not available?
  • Did you know that to live in the University Village apartments your student has to have completed 45 or more credits to apply and 60 or more academic credits by August 2021 to move-in?
  • Is your student interested in living in Gender-Inclusive Housing with their friends?

More detailed information and virtual info sessions will be available when students return to campus in January and families will also be receiving information at home about deadlines and the 2021-2022 process as well.

CANES CENTRAL

REGISTRATION, BILLING, FINANCIAL AID

Beat The Rush

Over the next couple of months, the 'Canes Central team will provide students with information that will help them "Beat the Rush!" and avoid last-minute surprises related to billing and payment, financial aid, registration and records, and 'Cane Card.

This information will be emailed to students, but will also be available at canescentral.miami.edu. Learn more about this new campaign and the forthcoming live Director’s Connection seminars.

Here are some important dates:

  • Registration Begins: Dec. 7, 2020
    • This is by students' assigned registration appointment times as listed in CaneLink.
  • Tuition Calculation Begins: Dec. 14, 2020
    • This is the process by which bills are populated.  This process takes one week so bills viewed during this time will not reflect all charges, credits, aid, etc.  Students and parents should wait until the First Billing Notice to review their account, seek to pay their balance, and reach out to ’Canes Central with questions.
  • First Billing Notice: Dec. 21, 2020
    • Students must be enrolled for a bill to be generated.
  • Remote Learning Financial Aid Adjusted: Jan. 7, 2021
  • Bills Due: Jan. 21, 2021
    • Fees will not be adjusted prior to the bill due date.  Students who are approved to study remotely will need to manually deduct the fees that will be waived as a result of remote learning from their account balance, and then make plans to pay that net amount by the bill due date.
  • Remote Learning Fee Waivers Applied: Jan. 27, 2021
  • Last Day for Registration and to Add a Course: Feb. 2, 2021
