Dear Resident Student,

Whether you are returning to campus housing or joining us for your first semester at the U, we are excited to welcome you in August. Throughout the summer, countless members of our administration and campus staff have worked side-by-side with medical professionals from UHealth and public health officials to develop our Four Pillars that guide our plans for a safe fall semester.

However, we cannot do this alone. Practicing physical distancing, wearing face masks, and frequently washing your hands are paramount to keeping our living communities safe and clean. By remembering that ’Canes Care for ’Canes, we can all do our part to slow the spread.

Another important step in helping to keep our campus safe is to reduce the risk of the virus entering our living community from the beginning. Therefore, all resident students are required to test negative for COVID-19 prior to their arrival to campus. Simply stated, you will not be permitted to move in to campus housing until the University receives your confirmed negative test result. Students with a positive result should immediately consult CDC guidelines for self-isolation and seeking care. These students will not be allowed to move in during their appointment time and will receive further instructions about how and when to return to campus.

To assist resident students in accessing a COVID-19 test, the University is providing at-home test kits to resident students through our partner vendor, LabCorp. These tests are provided at no charge to students. You will receive an email in the coming weeks with specific instructions to request your test kit from LabCorp and more information about the process.

Please note that students who are under the age of 18, currently living internationally, or receive their mail to a PO Box are unable to request a test kit from LabCorp and must make arrangements for their own viral COVID-19 test. These students are required to provide proof of their negative test result to Student Health Service no sooner than 10 days but no later than 2 business days before their move-in appointment. Additionally, please be prepared to present a copy of your test results when you check-in on campus.

In addition to the testing requirement, Housing and Residential Life will continue to share details about the move-in process in the coming weeks. You must follow all requirements in order to be allowed to move in during your assigned date and time. Failure to comply with such instructions risks the health of our community and will delay or jeopardize your ability to live on campus.

Information for students about COVID-19 health-related concerns is available at miami.edu/shs-covid. Contact Housing and Residential Life at housing@miami.edu for any questions related to move-in or the pre-arrival testing requirement.
